About Unicode & Emojis

The Unicode Consortium is the non-profit organization that maintains the Unicode Standard, which includes all emojis. Unicode assigns a unique code point to every character, ensuring that emojis appear consistently across different platforms and devices.

Emojis were first standardized in Unicode 6.0 (2010), though earlier versions included some symbols that would later be classified as emojis. Since then, new emojis are added regularly through annual Unicode releases.
